The Wrong Track - Jonas Brothers Fan Site
Joe adjusted the earphones clamped over his head and leant further towards the microphone before him. Either side of him were his brothers, cooing the backing vocals. "No we're not gonna work this out tonight..." Joe croaked. He looked up at his parents, stood on the opposite side of a pane of glass. Both of them threw up their hands in disgust and started hurling orders at him, although he couldn't hear them through the glass. A door burst open and in burst Kevin Jonas Sr., looking furious. "What is wrong with you Joseph?" he yelled, as Joe removed the earphones and Nick and Kevin shrunk back into the shadows. "I'm sorry, dad, I - " Joe began, but Kevin Sr. held a hand up to silence him. "Be quiet, ok? Just get it sorted. You've got two hours in which to record four songs, and if you carry on like you have been doing it's never going to get done. How would that make you feel, knowing that you've wrecked your brother's dreams through your own selfishness?" Joe turned to look at Nick ad Kevin. Nick was stood awkwardly with his hand on the back of his neck, and Kevin was staring at his shoes. "Dad, its's cool - " Nick muttered, but Kevin Sr. had already turned on his heel. "Two hours, boys!" he called, slamming the door behind him. "We've been in here eleven fucking hours!" Joe yelled, but he heard the buzz of music coming from his earphones and wrenched them back over his head. His throat was burning; nine days, it had been, and every single day had been over twelve hours. It had started off fine - the first day they'd recorded three songs, the second two, but from there on they were lucky if they did one. And now the deadline had been reached, but Joe had been pushed to his limits. As if recording the new album wasn't enough, their thirty-date world-tour began in eighty-two days, and Joe couldn't let his fans down. Every day for the past six months, when he got back from the recording studio, he was down to the gym, shaping up for all the running around it required. Happy?” Joe snapped, throwing down the earphones as the song came to an end. He looked up at the clock – it was six-thirty in the evening. All he’d had to eat was a slice of toast for breakfast, and two mugs of coffee throughout the day. And he still had to work out – great. “Get in the car,” Denise, their mother, snapped briskly as they piled out of the studio. “You’re ruining your chances, I hope you know that.” Joe glared up at his mother. He had never felt any resentment towards his parents before – in fact he had always loved them, purely for the fact that they had brought him into the world. But now, they were just making him miserable, working his nose into the ground every single day. He was nineteen years old, for God’s sake – most nineteen year olds were running round, getting drunk and pulling everyone they could. But he had stuck to his faith, hard as it was, and was determined to stay pure and a role model for all the children that worshipped him and his brothers. “Can we stop off at McDonalds? I’m starving,” Nick said from the back of the car as they drove off. “Don’t be so ridiculous,” Kevin Sr. snapped. “Do you honestly think I want my children eating that muck? And if you did, Frankie would want some. No way. You can have a roast dinner when you get home.” The boys exchanged looks – Kevin one of exhaustment, Nick one of longing and Joe one of fury. They always banded together at times like this, and they were all thankful of their close relationship. “I told Danielle I’d meet her tomorrow,” Kevin said suddenly. “Is that ok, mom?” Denise looked upto her husband, who gave a chuckle. “You really think I’m going to let you throw away your career for a girl? No, you can go to the gym tomorrow and train for the tour.” “But it’s a Sunday!” Joe yelled out in disgust. “God’s day of rest, remember!” “Only bone idol’s rest. You’ll work and emerge triumphant, with Grammys and Number One records under your belts, as well as millions of dollars in the bank.” Joe stared out of the window. When they arrived home he stormed up to the bedroom he shared with his brother Kevin and lay flat on his bed. His stomach gave a longing growl, but he was exhausted – too exhausted even to get off the bed, let alone go to the gym. He shut his eyes, and within seconds he was asleep. Joe thought it over for a few seconds. His dad had already decided he would have to go to the gym tomorrow, and he’d have to be up in less than five hours – but it was so tempting, and he did deserve a bit of fun. After all, Liquid was meant to be the best new nightclub in New Jersey... “OK,” said Joe, yanking a black t-shirt off the top of his dresser, “Let’s go!” They dressed hurriedly and opened their bedroom window as wide as it would go. There were alarms galore downstairs, and there were guaranteed to be bodyguards swarming the house, so this was tricky business. Kevin dangled his legs over the ledge and manouevered himself down. Joe strained his ears before hearing a soft flump as Kevin hit the roof of the kitchen, which was directly beneath their window. “Come on down!” he called, and Joe dived out of the window. It wasn’t the first time he’d done this – aged eleven, he’d been grounded after buying tickets to a football game, so had done exactly the same then. However now, it seemed a bit more sordid – they were inernational popstars, and they were going clubbing. It was exhilirating! Once on the kitchen roof they began to slip down the drainpipe, making sure to keep out of the way of the window – if one of their parents had gone down for a glass of water, they were doomed. They crawled over the lawn, keeping an eye out for any guards, and quietly opened the gate. They had to dodge behind trees to keep cover, but several seconds later – they were out. “Come on, I’m meeting her by Stoney Cove,” Kevin ordered, leading the way. Stoney Cove was a small meeting place several minutes from their home. It was covered in rocks, and surrounded by roses, with a small lagoon beside it – it was the ultimate romantic location. “I never knew you went to Stoney Cove with Danielle!” Joe cried. “Do you...?” “We’ve come close,” Kevin grinned, “it’s just so romantic, and I love her so much...” “I miss that,” Joe sighed, “Having someone to love. It’s just work, work, work for me at the moment.”
